Preserving the Past

We believe strongly in raising all of our animals humanely and with an abundance of care and respect.   

Our animals help us to continue good land stewardship in building healthy soil as well as

providing us a source of wool, meat and eggs.  

In our own small scale way, we practice regenerative agriculture by use of no till on our fields and pastures, minimal use of chemicals on the soil, composting that eventually gets spread onto our hayfield as natural fertilizer, providing resources to pollinators and managed grazing on our pastures.    We are as passionate about caring for the land and animals as we are in supporting local organic and sustainable growers/farmers and humanely raised animal products.

We also have a strong desire to support and promote heritage breed animals:

Heritage breeds are traditional livestock breeds that were raised by our forefathers. These are the breeds of a bygone era, before industrial agriculture became a mainstream practice. Traditional, historic breeds retain essential attributes for survival and self-sufficiency – fertility, foraging ability, longevity, maternal instincts, ability to mate naturally, and resistance to diseases and parasites.
Heritage animals once roamed the pastures of America’s pastoral landscape, but today these breeds are in danger of extinction. Modern agriculture has changed, causing many of these breeds to fall out of favor. Heritage breeds store a wealth of genetic resources that are important for our future and the future of our agricultural food system.

Each Spring we have a limited number of Clun Forest lambs available and from Spring through Fall we sell roadside heritage breed chicken eggs. This is our small way of assisting in the continuation of these special and beautiful breeds.
